Minnesota Farmers Charged with Fraud in $46 Million Scheme

Minneapolis (WJON News) — Two Southern Minnesota organic farmers face federal fraud charges.

Age 65, according to the U.S. Department of Justice James Wolfe and 45 years old Adam Olson He is being questioned for his role in Cottonwood County’s $46 million organic grain fraud scheme.

Wolfe, a certified organic farmer, also cultivated crops conventionally using chemical pesticides and fertilizers, according to court records. He allegedly sold these crops to buyers without disclosing the truth about the growing conditions.

Wolfe provided the buyer with a copy of his National Organic Program certification, even though the method of growing the crop violated organic farming standards, according to records.

After Wolfe’s certification was revoked in 2020, Olson, who is also a certified organic farmer, helped Wolfe sell non-GMO grains under false pretexts, according to the documents.

Both men have been charged with three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy. Wolf was first charged in July 2022, while Olson is scheduled to appear in court for the first time on January 26.
