Missing hiker found dead at Telegraph Pass

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) announced that a 58-year-old woman has died while hiking in the Telegraph Pass area.

Deputies said Wednesday afternoon they received a report of a missing hiker in Telegraph Pass.

The missing hiker, identified as Laura Kissinger, 58, said she was going hiking in the Telegraph Pass area around 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to reporters.

However, the reporter called the police after not hearing from Kissinger for several hours.

Investigators found Kissinger's car parked near the hiking area and began searching, YCSO said.

YCSO search and rescue, Border Patrol BORSTAR, and air support from CBP Air and Marine Corps responded to the search.

Kissinger was later found at the base of a ridge about 1/4 mile from the highway.

She was found suffering from injuries related to the fall and died at the scene, deputies said.

Next of kin has been notified.

YCSO said due to the remote location and steep terrain, Tucson's AZDPS Helicopter Ranger provided necessary assistance in extricating the deceased.

Eduardo Morales hosted a livestream explaining the details.
