Missing woman’s body found in landfill near Maricopa

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced that the body of 38-year-old Crystal Uptein was discovered on December 5th.

MARICOPA, Ariz. — The body of a missing woman was found in a landfill west of Maricopa earlier this month, authorities said.

of Maricopa County Sheriff's Office According to reports, the body of 38-year-old Crystal Uptein was discovered on December 5th at the Butterfield Station Landfill in Mobile, Arizona.

Uptein's death was ruled a homicide after the sheriff's office said there were “suspicious circumstances at the scene.”

The woman's body also had “unexplained injuries,” the sheriff's office said.

Uptein was reported missing by the Maricopa Police Department on Nov. 25.

Uptein lived in a neighborhood just east of Maricopa. Her neighbors described her as kind and helpful.

Neighbors said they saw police searching Upten's home two days earlier. Investigators remained at the home for hours.

Her neighbors also said Upten had health problems and didn't leave her house much.

When 12News knocked on Aptein's door, the man who answered said he had not been informed of the investigation.

No arrests have been made in connection with Mr. Uptein's death at this time.
