UFC fighter Ramon Taveras has released a horrifying video after barely surviving a drive-by shooting outside his mother's home in Duval, Florida.
Taveras posted the security camera footage to his Instagram page on Monday.
“I'm sorry I have to post this but I cannot sweep this under the rug,” he wrote. “On Monday, July 29th, 2024 at 10:05pm a group of armed men drove up to my mother's house and attempted to take my life. By the grace of God, I escaped unharmed and was able to grab my gun and fight back in self-defense.”
The video captures all those horrifying moments as multiple shots are fired and people scream for their lives in the background.
“This city is unforgiving, it’s worse than JSO. [Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office] “It doesn't solve any problems,” Taveras continues.
“I lost my brother to gun violence in 2019 and his killer has yet to be caught. Now I find myself in nearly the same situation.”
He also slammed the way his local police department handled his case.
“JSO did the bare minimum for my brother and now they are doing the same for me. They thought I was targeted because of 'gang violence' or problems I caused. I am not causing any trouble to anyone and am going my own way and focusing on work and family. Even after explaining this they continued to insinuate that I was involved in something that brought this ending on myself,” the MMA fighter wrote.
“Nobody is perfect and we all have a past, but I am a very different person to who I was 10 years ago and for something like this to happen all of a sudden is shocking. It makes me look at my life and my family through a completely different lens,” Taveras added.
He admits he's shaken by the ordeal and is already making a plan of action.
“My family feels unsafe and I'm worried about my children, who almost lost their father who was trying to turn their lives around. I love my city so much and it's sad that I have to leave.”
Putting things in perspective, he wrote, “This was meant to be a memorial post. I could have lost my life like my brother did, or someone could have lost theirs trying to take mine. No more silence. I ask for your support in spreading this message as far as possible.”
“I feel blessed and happy to be alive, but I am leaving Duval.”(RELATED: Police arrest man believed to have broken into Drake home the day after shooting at same location)
