Mohave Community College preparing for 52nd Commencement, Regina Cobb will be guest speaker | Kingman Daily Miner

Mojave County – Mojave Community College is gearing up for its 52nd Annual Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 12 at 3:00 pm at Anderson Fieldhouse, Bullhead Pkwy 3663.

According to the MCC news release, students in the 2022-2023 class will earn around 800 degrees and certificates. This year’s opening speaker is former Arizona Rep. Regina Cobb, DDS. She served as a member of Congress from 2015 to 2023 and currently serves as Executive Director of the Arizona Dental Association.

Cobb is also a recipient of the MCC Founders Award, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the university and community. As State Representative and Budget Committee Chair in the House of Representatives, she advocated for Kingman to increase funding for her MCC to develop her Advanced Manufacturing Training Center. She also helped launch the College Dental program successfully.

At the ceremony, MCC President Stacey Crippenstein will announce the winners of the $10,000 2023 Kathy Hodel Best Student Award. Kathy Hodel’s Best Student Award was established through donations to the MCC Foundation. It was provided by Dr. James H. Child in honor of the memory of his friend Kathy Hodel. She passed away in 2018 after her long battle with bone cancer. Child, a retired attorney and MCC instructor, donated his nearly $250,000 to establish the fund. He chose to use this gift as a way to honor her MCC students, outstanding alumni, and Kathy Hodel, who has devoted countless hours and efforts to supporting MCC and the community. bottom.

Kathy urged everyone to “remember the importance of serving above yourself and do what you can to help a worthy cause in your community.”

The 2023 Alumni Speaker is Ian Fleming. He is working towards an associate’s degree in mathematics. He is also part of the 2023 He’s All Arizona Academic Team Member, offering tuition waivers to Arizona’s public universities. He is excited to speak with his peers and congratulate them on their future endeavours.

Laurel Clifford Mathematics Faculty and 2019 Ellen Rikari Service to Student Award winner was honored to be a mace-bearer at the ceremony. Her Ellen Licari Service to Student award winner for 2023 is Beth Hooven. She is a member of the School of Nursing at the Lake Havasu City Campus. This award goes to her MCC employees who put students first.
