BULLHEAD CITY – Mojave Community College Women’s Head Soccer Coach, Cynthia Cervantes, received the National Latino Coach of Excellence Award from the United Soccer Coaches Organization. MCC News She received the award Friday, January 13, at the organization’s convention, the world’s largest annual meeting of college soccer coaches, in Philadelphia.
This award recognizes an individual, organization, group or other entity that has made extraordinary achievements in the Latin football community. The winner has made a huge impact through the game of football, instilling sportsmanship and teaching life skills such as responsibility and teamwork.
“I am grateful and humbled to receive this award,” said Cervantes. It’s a chance to thank my family, my mentors, and where I’m headed.”
She is a leader and mentor in the Latinx community in her hometown of El Paso, Texas. In December 2022, she joined the Mojave County community when the MCC hired her as the head coach of Northwest Arizona’s first college-level women’s soccer team.
Cervantes has been coaching professionally for over ten years. She was her director of coaching for Juventus FC in El Paso and was also coach of the New Mexico Youth in her soccer Olympic development programme.
She earned a Master’s degree in Recreation and Sports Science from Ohio University. Eastern She has a BA in Business Administration and Physical Education from the University of Mexico.
Cervantes credits her father for introducing her to the game, and thanks her family’s support and mentors for cheering her on. This is varsity star Brandi Chastain, who is an assistant coach for the US Western Regional Olympic Development Program.
