Excessive heat will continue through at least Wednesday, but storm coverage will also increase…

It’s off to a warm and muggy start as temperatures return to the 70’s and 80’s in most of southeastern Arizona. The afternoon will continue to be very hot, with highs around 111 to 113 degrees in the hottest spots. Temperatures will range from 102 degrees to 113 degrees for southeastern Arizona, with an extreme heat warning in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday. The alert includes all of Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties, but not the Isles of Skye. Drink plenty of water, check before you lock your door, and remember to limit your time outdoors to between 10am and 8pm.

Extreme heat will have the biggest impact this week, but southeastern Arizona will also be affected by thunderstorms every day this week. A severe storm is expected to form early this afternoon and spread extensively south of Tucson, along the border, especially in Santa Cruz County. Strong to severe storms can occur in isolation, with the greatest impacts including gust damage and dust dispersal. A dust advisory is in effect from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for most of Santa Cruz, Pima and Pinal counties. Always park your car off the shoulder as visibility can be significantly reduced. Turn off all your car lights to avoid being rear-ended. Set aside and live!

The most recent rainfall recorded during the monsoon he was July 20, 1901, which is this coming Thursday.
