Dr. Amy Hinton to Attend C-Span’s Summer Educators Conference
Dr. Amy Hinton, a social studies teacher at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School for the Performing Arts in Montgomery, Alabama, has been selected to participate in C-Span’s Summer Educators Conference. This event, taking place from July 28-30, will bring together 30 educators from across the nation to learn about free educational resources and how to use them effectively in their teaching.
The conference will provide educators with the chance to delve into a variety of free curriculum options available online. Among these resources are C-Span’s Lesson Plans, Current Event Videos, and historical content, as well as information about StudentCam, a documentary competition for students in grades 6-12.
Attendees will also benefit from presentations by speakers and learn how to navigate C-Span’s extensive video library, which holds around 300,000 hours of content. This aims to create a more interactive learning atmosphere for students.
The selection process for participants involved evaluation by C-SPAN representatives, focusing on their eagerness to adopt new educational tools, use them in their classrooms, and share their experiences within the academic community. C-SPAN will provide participants with round-trip travel to Washington, DC, as well as hotel accommodations during the three-day professional development event.
“This conference presents a practical approach for educators to find new tools they can take back to their classrooms. Our team, many of whom have teaching backgrounds, is eager to foster innovative connections among educators and find ways to implement our resources effectively,” said a C-SPAN representative. They also mentioned the organization has hosted educator meetings for over two decades, expressing enthusiasm for this year’s attendees.
Participants can expect to hear from special guests, including CEO Sam Feist, who will discuss C-SPAN’s initiatives and operations.
The Summer Educators Conference is funded by the Education Foundation of C-SPAN, a charitable body created by the network. C-SPAN, primarily supported by American cable and satellite companies, is accessible locally in Montgomery through Spectrum.
