Montgomery ice cream shop robbed twice in two months

Police are currently investigating three separate crimes that occurred within hours of Memorial Day in Montgomery, including one at La Moraleja ice cream shop, the second such incident in two months.

Police responded to the 600 block of Charles Street just after 10 a.m. after reports of a shooting that left one man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and just an hour later, the ice cream store was robbed.

The robbers were reportedly armed and fired shots into the floor of La Moraleja before fleeing the scene without any injuries.

Store employees recounted the fact that just over a month ago, armed robbers had broken into the store and done the same thing.

“They control our hours, they know what time we leave work, they know when it's busy,” an anonymous employee told WSFA News.

Just hours after the robbery, a man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a stabbing was reported at the intersection of Mildred and Mobile Streets, and one woman was killed Sunday afternoon in a double shooting in the 900 block of South Union Street downtown, just a few blocks from the Alabama State Capitol.

No arrests have been made and no other information is available at this time.
