FREMONT, Nebraska – The Fremont Mu extended their winning streak to five with an 11-10 walk-off win over Spearish Sasquatch on Friday night at Historic Moorer Field.
Fremont opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Henry Heyman tied with a one-out walk from Spearfish starter Julio Romero, followed by a walk by Tyman Long. Tyler Harrington singled to drive Heyman in and an error sent runners to second and third base. Carter Shintech hit a long ball on a grounder to make it 2-0. A double steal from Harrington brought it home to give Fremont a 3-0 lead.
Sasquatch tied the game in the top of the second inning. Mu’s starting pitcher Brody Sintech’s first pitch was missed by Jack Naehler, who hit a home run for the first time this year to make it 3-1. Nolan Ackerman hit a double, but fell short and was replaced by Gage Kracht. Bryson Hoyer singled to bring Kracht home to make it 3-2. Three batters later, Keegan Weston hit an RBI double to score Hoyer to make it 3–3.
Mu regained the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Andrew Kirchner was hit by a pitch and advanced to second and third with two wild pitches. Then two batters followed with an RBI double by Henry Heyman to score Kirchner to make it 4-3. Tyman Long then threw a 1-0 pitch from Romero over the midfield fence to give Fremont a 6-3 lead.
Spearfish tied the game again in the top of the fourth. Kracht went first with a walk. After that, Bryson Hoyer hit a come-from-behind hit against Brody Shintech, who threw to second base, but no one covered it, and the throw flew to center field. Joey Legg hit a RBI hit to score for Kracht, making it 6-4. Two batters later, Weston hit a RBI and Hoyer scored to make it 6–5. Seth Nelson then scored a leg on a fielder’s choice to tie the game 6–6.
Fremont regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Blake Tablazon took the lead on a walk. Henry Heyman walked and Tablazon stole third base. Heyman advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and Tyman Long walked the bases with the bases loaded. For the Spearfish, second reliever Jack Sutton struck Harrington into a 6-4-3 double play, but Tablazon scored to make it 7-6.
The score stayed the same until the bottom of the eighth inning. Andrew Kirchner scored first with a double. Hunter Palmer tried to bunt, but Sutton’s throw to first went high and allowed Kirchner to score to make it 8-6. Palmer doubled and Tablazon was hit by a pitch. Spearfish put Joe McBride into the game. The first pitch and a double steal put Palmer on third base and Tablazon on second base. Palmer scored on a wild pitch and Tablazon scored on a passed ball to make Fremont 10–6.
The Spearfish fought back to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning. Ryan Backman led with a double, then two batters gave Jack Naehler a walk. Gage Kracht walked the bases. Bryson Hoyer then hit a fielder’s choice hit on a short grounder, but Carter Sintech’s throw to second went into right field, and Bachman and pinch runner Aiden Bennett scored to make it 10-8. Darius Blasingane got two outs by fouling out Joey Legg wide at third base. However, pinch hitter Bailey Bordas hit a two-RBI single to left, which scored by Kracht and Hoyer to tie the game at 10-10. Pinch-hitter Chaz Crook singled to put runners on first and second base, and Moo went to the bullpen and brought in Connor Petersen. The right-handed batter hit Seth Nelson to the right, ending the inning at 2-2.
Fremont found a way to win in the bottom of the ninth. Carter Shintech took the lead with a walk. Hayden Lewis then hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Shintech to second base with one out. Neil Jansen bounced out to third base with two outs. After that, Shintech stole third base, and Andrew Kirchner was hit by a pitch and made runners on first and third base. As Hunter Palmer came to bat, McBride’s first pitch bounced off the dirt and fled, allowing Shintech to score. Fremont won 11-10 after 3 hours and 47 minutes.
Mu’s starting pitcher Brodie Sintec pitched 4.0 innings. The Fremont and Wayne State graduate allowed six hits, three earned runs, one walk, five strikeouts, and was homered by Jack Naehler in the second inning. Brandon Landquist pitched 3.0 innings. The Omaha native and University of Nebraska graduate allowed one hit, no runs, five walks, three strikeouts and one wild pitch. Darius Blasingane pitched 1.2 innings. The St. Petersburg, Fla., Edward Waters college graduate allowed four hits, four earned runs and two walks. Conor Petersen (1-0) pitched 0.1 innings. The Tucson, Arizona, Midlander faced a single hitter and got a flyout.
Spearfish starting pitcher Julio Romero pitched 2.0 innings. He had three hits, five earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts. In the second inning, Tyman Long hit a two-run home run, and he also suffered two wild pitches and one hit by a batter. Levi Graham pitched 1.0 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 run, walking 4, striking out 1, and wild pitching 2. Jack Sutton pitched 4.0 innings. He had 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts and 1 batter. Joe McBride (1-2) lost. He pitched 1.2 innings, allowing 1 run, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, and 1 batter.
Offensively, Fremont’s Henry Heyman was 1-for-3. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, and from Burton County Community College, he drove the car on one run. Tyman Long had one hit in three at bats. The Southern Nevada University native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hit a league-tying 11th home run of the year in the second inning to lead the way by two runs. Tyler Harrington went 2-for-5. The Lakeland, Tennessee native headed to Birmingham, Alabama, where he scored two RBIs.
In Spearfish, Seth Nelson went 0-for-6 and gave up 1 run. Jack Naehler had one hit in three at bats and a solo home run. Bryson Hoyer had one hit in five at bats and allowed one run. Joey Legg had 3-for-5 with 1 RBI. Baillie Bodus went 1-for-1 with 2 RBIs, and Keegan Weston went 2-for-3 with two homers.
More info: Fremont extended their winning streak to five games. It was Mu’s fifth win of the season this season. Fremont’s Henry Heyman had a five-game hitting streak.
