Mother Arrested After 1-Year-Old Baby Survives In Ditch For Two Days Near Brother’s Dead Body

Authorities confirmed the arrest of Aaliyah Jack, 25, earlier this week after her 1-year-old son was found dead after surviving two days in a ditch near the body of his 4-year-old brother.

Louisiana authorities announced that Jack would be charged with murder after being arrested in Louisiana for failing to report a missing child in Mississippi. news release Officials with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) announced Thursday that charges against Jack also include two counts of failure to report a missing child, cruelty to a minor and second-degree murder.

“While the charges against Jack have been increased, detectives still have much work to do,” Guillory said in a news release. “The investigation continues while we await the results of the victim's autopsy.”

Authorities in Louisiana received a call about a body found in the water around 3pm on Monday, later confirmed to be that of a 4-year-old boy who was last seen with Jack and his 1-year-old brother, the new release confirmed.

After the Meridian, Mississippi Police Department arrested Jack, CPSO continued to search for the 1-year-old, eventually finding the baby in a ditch on the side of the highway on Tuesday.

The ditch where the one-year-old was found is several miles from where the four-year-old's body was found. according to To KPLC.

“We thought this one-year-old was a miracle baby because he's still alive. We just can't believe it,” Guillory said. “He spent two days on the side of the highway in bad weather. We're so grateful that the truck driver noticed him.”

Guillory said the one-year-old was found with several insect bites but was “in good spirits” and would be taken to hospital for an examination and then released into the custody of Child Protective Services.

Louisiana Judge Tony Fazzio set Jack's total bail at $9.1 million, but she remains in custody in Mississippi and it is unclear when she will be extradited to the state. according to To the Waterdown Daily Times.
