Arizona 13-month-old accidentally run over by mom’s car (GoFundMe)

A mother who accidentally ran over her 13-month-old while trying to pull her car out of a tight parking lot in Arizona has posted a heartbreaking tribute.

Jafria Thornberg posted a GoFundMe page for her daughter, Saira Rose Sommig, saying she was “the absolute light of my life.” She continued, “The name Cura means light in some languages and when translated means light emanating from God’s throne. I know she is with him now.”

“She waved to everyone, made sure her smile was visible, and she brought light to their day,” the devastated mother wrote. “She was only 13 and a half months old, but she was already able to walk, eat, talk, sing, dance, change clothes, bathe and wash her hands on her own.”

“A part of me has been lost forever and nothing will ever be the same. I cannot thank you all enough for your love and support through this tragedy. I didn’t expect to have to deal with that,” Thornberg wrote.

The toddler’s uncle, TJ Warren, organized the fundraiser. He spoke warmly of his niece. “I couldn’t think of anyone who didn’t spend just a moment with her and put on her best smile.” It will take some of the burden off some parents.”

On July 6, Yavapai County officials were dispatched to the scene after receiving a “tragic 911” call from a woman who “run over a 13-month-old baby with her car.” The car was parked on the gravel next to Thornberg’s home in Cottonwood, Arizona.

According to a media statement, Thornberg “placed the child in the car seat where he believed it would be safe.” When the car was being repositioned, the front tire got caught in the child seat canopy, causing the seat to fall backwards and seriously injuring the child. ”

Despite “lifesaving measures” and “heroic efforts” by medical professionals, the child was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

“While repositioning the vehicle, the front tire caught on the child seat canopy, causing the vehicle to tip over backwards and seriously injure the infant,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
