Incident Reported on British Airways Flight
A woman from California has alleged that a nurse on a British Airways flight lifted her nursing cover without consent and exposed her while she was breastfeeding. Sheyanne Wright, a city commissioner and business owner from Costa Mesa, mentioned that she had asked to delay her meal service to manage the needs of her toddler and nursing but claimed the crew declined her request. Wright reported experiencing repeated inappropriate physical contact from a flight attendant during the meal service.
Wright described how she reacted by trying to push the attendant away. “I put my hands on it to shake him off,” she recounted, feeling “violated” by the experience. She stated, “Then, without asking, he lifts up the nursing cover completely. It awakens her. Both my breasts are out. And he doesn’t apologize. He says, ‘Do you want your food?’”
Additionally, she alleged that there were other instances of inappropriate contact, including unauthorized touches on her foot and unsolicited help with her seatbelt, which she classified as sexual harassment from the airline.
Regarding the aftermath, British Airways reportedly offered her gift cards of $250 and $1,000 but did not provide a direct apology. Wright expressed frustration, stating that her complaints felt trivial, like “complaining that my headset was broken.” She mentioned the need for potential legal action to ensure her concerns were taken seriously.
The airline has responded, indicating they are in touch with her to investigate the claims and find a resolution. Discussion about this incident has sparked considerable commentary online, with many discussing the issues surrounding legal protections for breastfeeding, highlighting the need for respect and boundaries. “Just because someone is breastfeeding doesn’t mean it’s an invitation for contact,” Wright emphasized.
British Airways has been contacted for further comment on this matter.
