Vice President Kamala Harris formally acknowledged her presidential victory Wednesday night at her alma mater, Howard University, where her watch party was held the night before.
Harris said she called former President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon to congratulate him on his 2024 election victory, as did most news organizations earlier in the day. The vice president encouraged his supporters, who are experiencing a “range of emotions”, to continue “fighting” in the spirit of the campaign while accepting the election results. “In our country, we owe allegiance to the Constitution of the United States, to our consciences and to our God, not to a president or a political party. Because I owe allegiance to all three, I am here to say that while we will concede on this election, we will not concede on the fight that inspired this campaign: the fight for freedom, opportunity, equity, and dignity for all people. said the vice president.
Today my heart is full. I am filled with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, full of love for our country, and full of determination.

As Harris’ path to victory began to narrow late Tuesday night, her campaign sent an internal email to staff telling them to go home and rest. At the time the email was sent, two battleground states, North Carolina and Georgia, were supporting Mr. Trump.
“Those of you who were in 2020 know this all too well. It takes time for every vote to be counted. And every vote will be counted.” That’s how our system works. . What we do know is that this race doesn’t come into focus until early in the morning,” said campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon. I wrote, Outlined a potential path to victory at the time. “This is what we’re here for. So tonight let’s finish what’s in front of us, get some sleep, and get ready to finish strong tomorrow.”
Later that night, Harris campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond told the already thinning crowd that the vice president would not attend the watch party but would speak the next day. Shortly after, Fox News called President Trump to Pennsylvania, destroying Harris’ chances of winning with a “blue wall.”
“This is a movement like no one has ever seen, and frankly I think it’s the greatest political movement in history,” President Trump told his supporters shortly after being declared the winner of the presidential election. “There has never been anything like this in this country, and perhaps in the world. Going forward, this will take on a new level of importance as we help the country recover.”

“Today, my heart is full. I am filled with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, I am filled with love for our country, and I am filled with determination,” the vice president said. “The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, and it is not what we fought for. But hear me out: The light of America’s promise will always burn bright.”
