National Park Service considers price increase to these Grand Canyon campgrounds

Grand Canyon National Park is proposing fee increases for three campgrounds on its North Rim and is seeking public input through the end of the year.

The planned price increases will affect Desert View, Mather and North Rim campgrounds, which have maintained the same rates for the past 20 years, according to a National Park Service news release Thursday.

NPS has proposed increasing the current campsite nightly rate of $18 for tent and RV users to $30 per night. The half price discount for Senior Pass and Access Pass holders will remain in effect under the new changes, along with dedicated group and walk-in sites.

The proposed price increases for the three campgrounds, if implemented, would begin April 1, 2025, according to a news release.

Here’s how to submit NPS feedback about a proposed price increase:

Until Dec. 15, the public can submit NPS feedback on the proposed increase.

Camp participants can access a dedicated site online web page Please leave a comment about the increase.

Written feedback may be mailed to Grand Canyon National Park, Attn: Visitor Resource and Protection, PO Box 129, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023.

What is the campsite usage fee used for?

NPS said 80 percent of campground fees will be retained by Grand Canyon National Park for the purpose of “improving the visitor experience, service capabilities, and safety.”

According to NPS, there were 159,000 tent nights and 84,332 RV nights in the Grand Canyon.
