Trent McLaughlin made a running layup with 22 seconds left as NAU defeated North Dakota 74-73 in the final game of the Big Sky/Summit League Challenge on Saturday at the SkyDome. North Dakota State had three chances to win with 13 seconds left, but couldn't make the shots, and NAU went on to win, ending the losing streak at three. McLaughlin finished with 17 points, but Diego Campisano led the Jacks with 18 points. For NAU, Carson Basham had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Jacks will be back on the road next week, playing against Montana State on Thursday and Saturday. In Fargo, North Dakota, the NAU women's basketball team led North Dakota State by one point at halftime, 38-37. The Bison then outscored NAU 38-20 in the third quarter for a 99-73 victory over the Lumberjacks. The Jacks had five players score in double figures in the loss, with Lee Beatty leading the way with 12 points. The Bison made 12 of 22 3-point shots in the game. NAU will return to Big Sky play for the remainder of the season, hosting Montana State at the Skydome on Thursday and Saturday.
