Flagstaff, Arizona (August 26, 2025)
The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team is set to embark on a five-game road trip, kicking off with the Outrigger No-Kai Tournament in Hawaii. Their schedule includes a neutral match against South Dakota on Sunday, followed by a showdown with Hawaii at Waipuff next Thursday.
The game against Hawaii is slated to start at 10 PM this Thursday, with the match against South Dakota taking place at 3 PM on the same day.
The Lumberjacks enter this week with a record of 1-1-1, having had their home game against Phoenix College canceled last Sunday due to regional lightning. They recently played UC San Diego, ending in a 0-0 draw.
In the matchup against UC San Diego, the Lumberjacks managed to outshoot the Tritons 10-7 and secured six corner kicks compared to just one for the Tritons. Mikara Board was notable in the game, leading her team with four shots and accumulating 14 total shots over the three matches so far. Other contributors included Kaylee Muniz, Morgan Kathryn, and Lily Nesland, who also scored.
Reece Reichwald took the start for two of her first three games, culminating in her first career shutout during the match with UC San Diego last week. She made four saves, boasting an average goals allowed of 0.63.
This match against Hawaii will mark the second encounter between the two teams; their last face-off was in 2013, which ended with a 1-0 victory for the Rainbow Wahine. Hawaii is coming off the 2024 Big West Regular Season Championship and was picked as a favorite in the Big West Preseason poll, currently holding a record of 1-2-1.
The Rainbow Wahine recently faced a setback, losing 3-0 to Oregon. Players Nalani Damacion and Amber Gilbert have been recognized on the preseason all-conference team. Like Northern Arizona, Hawaii has had four players score a goal this season, with goalkeepers Brianna Chillpitch and Kennedy Justin sharing responsibilities in net.
Northern Arizona also faces South Dakota, a team they battled previously in 2022, where the Jack Rabbits emerged with a 3-2 win in Flagstaff. South Dakota was ranked second in the Summit League preseason poll, with Lauren Ecker and Haley Christensen leading the 2025 player watch list.
The Jack Rabbits, boasting a 2-1-1 record, are two-time defending champions in the conference tournament, having secured their third title in the last four seasons in 2024. They are set to face California Baptists on Thursday before meeting Northern Arizona on Sunday.
