Navy-Bound Teen Literally Leaps Into Action, Braves Out-Of-Control Boat On NH Lake

A 17-year-old boy hoping to join the Navy stopped an unmanned boat that was dangerously spinning on a New Hampshire lake, WBZ reported Friday, citing bystander video footage.

Brady Prokon, of Ludlow, Massachusetts, reportedly performed a heroic act by jumping from the back of a jet ski into a speedboat as it was spinning on Lake Winnipesaukee. Wikipedia.

video show Procon and the jet ski driver circle the deserted boat as other boaters look on. As the jet ski circles around the spinning boat, Procon can be seen jumping off the boat and sitting in the driver's seat of the boat. “I was like, 'I have to do something to stop this,' and everyone else was just standing there waiting for something to happen,” Procon told WBZ.

The dangerous situation reportedly occurred when the mast of a passing yacht tilted and struck the throttle of a boat used to train young sailors. According to WBZ, the unexpected acceleration threw the instructor and students overboard, causing the boat to spin out of control for several minutes.

“We were sitting on the back porch and we heard a loud noise in the no-wave area and my dad said, 'Hey, there's no one on that boat,'” Prokon told the outlet.

According to WBZ, neighbor Rich Bono, who captured Procon's heroic actions on camera, called the Marine Patrol but got no response.

According to WBZ, Procon was about to hop on a jet ski to rescue the children from the water when he spotted a stranger on another jet ski and asked if he could ride on the back.

“I jumped off my jet ski, jumped on his jet ski, then we chased the boat and I jumped off,” Procon said.

Procon landed hard in the driver's seat but was able to control the boat, WBZ reported.

“There are a million bad things that could have happened,” Bono said, according to the outlet. “The propeller could have bitten him off… He could have bounced off the boat and been sent flying in another direction.”

Following his heroic actions on the lake, Prokon plans to join the Navy in September and hopes to learn how to defuse explosives, the media reported.
