NBA legend Byron Scott in Yuma for a meet and greet

ASU Alumni Byron Scott Returns to Arizona and Meets Fans in Yuma County

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Byron Scott was in Yuma on Saturday for a meet and greet to kick off the start of March Madness at Paradise Casino.

He was a key member of the Showtime era of the Los Angeles Lakers, winning three championships alongside Hall of Famers Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Scott met and signed autographs with many fans at the Sharkies Lounge from noon to 2pm.

One obsessive fan even showed off having a Lakers tattoo on his arm.

“I thought it was so cool. I’ve seen so many different tattoos on people’s bodies and so many different emblems of the Lakers. Cool,” Scott explains.

This was Scott’s first visit to Yuma and he enjoyed the small town feel.

“I love it because it’s a little more intimate. I know you get the chance to spend a little more time with your fans and talk to them. When you’re doing it in a big city, you know a lot of things.” We have people,” says Scott. “It’s like livestock. You just bring the animals in and give them autographs and they go away. I really enjoy it.”

He says he’s ready to watch some intense college basketball.

“The great thing about March Madness is that it’s always the underdog who get to Sweet 16 or Elite Eight,” Scott continues. “So I’m going to pay attention to watching games and the quality of basketball is much better in March.”

Scott said it’s just fun to watch college students play hard every night.

As an Arizona State graduate, he said Friday’s game against the University of Arizona was tough to watch.

The madness begins on Sunday and you can start betting at the Paradise Casino sportsbook.
