YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – For the first time since 2019, a professional baseball league will kick up the dirt in the Southwest desert and bring the baseball spirit back to the region.

The Southern Winter League kicks off in September in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico, with a four-team season gathering local and international baseball prospects.

Additionally, the 16U Yuma All-Star baseball team is on track to reach the quarterfinals on Sunday with a comfortable 10-0 victory. Juan Ayala continued his summer form, shutting out six innings and boosted by explosive pitching in four plate appearances.

And this weekend, two local boxers stepped into the ring after training at Yuma’s Aztec Boxing Club. Kane Anaya, 12, advanced by forfeit, while Nathan Mondéjar, 15, is set to step into the ring in Phoenix on Saturday.
