Lake County Libraries will begin its 2023 NEA Big Leads program in February for the first time since COVID pre-2018. The NEA Big Lead will begin its kickoff event on February 9 at the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College in Clear Lake. , 2023, from 12pm to 2pm. The kickoff event will feature informational sessions, complimentary copies of the NEA Big Read book, and an open forum celebrating love stories and language. District supervisors join university and library staff and members of the public for the kickoff event.
The NEA Big Lead event will continue through February and March, with events ranging from book discussions and writing workshops to family and local water history museum presentations to farmers market booths. . Little Reed for kids is also offered with his four story times in the library branch, featuring age-appropriate books on themes related to the NEA Big Reed books.
The programming will conclude with a virtual author event featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Natalie Diaz, author of the Postcolonial Love Poem. This closing event will be hosted by Friends of Mendocino County and will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Mendocino College Lake Center. The virtual event will be streamed live from all four of his chapters at the University’s Roundroom and the Lake County Library.
The final event will be held at the Lakeport Library on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with Poets Laureate of Lake County, newly appointed State Poets Laureate of California, Alameda and Ukiah Poet Laureate readings will be given, including the poet.
Free entry to all NEA Big Lead events.
