Netanyahu Reacts to the Death of Charlie Kirk
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his sorrow over the passing of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, during an appearance on Newsmax. He referred to Kirk as “a great friend of Israel.”
Kirk, who was 31 years old, was fatally shot at an event held at Utah Valley University. In a conversation on “Records with Greta Van Susterlen,” Netanyahu described Kirk’s death as a tragic event.
“It’s a tragic situation, and I hope to honor the memory of this great man and champion of Jewish-Christian values, free speech, and freedom,” Netanyahu mentioned. “The loss of Charlie Kirk is profound. We mourn for his wife, Erica, and his two lovely children, along with all those who admired him.”
Netanyahu recalled that earlier this year, Kirk had sent him a heartfelt letter.
“If I remember correctly, he wrote to me on May 2nd, sharing that one of his greatest joys as a Christian was supporting Israel and defending Judeo-Christian civilization,” said Netanyahu, reflecting on his connection to Kirk. “I called him a few weeks ago, and he seemed eager to meet. We were meant to set a date, but, unfortunately, that didn’t happen.”
Authorities have yet to apprehend the individual responsible for Kirk’s shooting, although they temporarily held two people before later releasing them. The FBI’s Salt Lake City division has since released images of potential suspects.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators found rifle ammunition in a wooded area near the university. Reports suggest the ammunition featured messages endorsing fascism in opposition to transgender issues, according to sources cited by a publication.
Before the tragic incident, Kirk had been engaged in discussions with students at the event. Video footage captures him conversing about topics such as mass shootings and gender ideology when the shooting occurred.
