In what may be an unfortunate sign of the times, a new council has been launched to bring together white criminals, their loved ones, lawyers and community members to address unique post-conviction challenges. White Collar Conference 2024 aims to address the current It aims to fill the gap in the situation.
This conference is the first of its kind. White Collar Conference 2024 will be held virtually on October 19, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
Unlike traditional law conferences that focus on the practice of law or corporate governance, white-collar conferences focus on the personal and professional rehabilitation of convicted people and those closest to them. This represents a shift in perspective about the avenues available to society not only for justice but also for recovery and accountability. White-collar criminal convictions often lead to a cascade of consequences, including financial ruin, career loss, family breakdown, and an uphill battle to reintegrate into society, and this event seeks to address just those issues head-on. Designed.
The brainchild of Jeff Grant white collar support groupa 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing mentorship and community for nonviolent white-collar offenders, the conference comes at a critical time. As white-collar prosecutions continue to rise, with cases like Elizabeth Holmes and Sam Bankman Freed making headlines, more criminals and their families are grappling with the devastating fallout of these convictions. The need for guidance and support has never been greater.
“White-collar crime doesn’t just affect the victim and the person convicted; it affects the entire family and support system,” says co-founder of the group with direct experience as a financial criminal. explains Jeff Grant. “White-collar conferences are about bringing everyone together for better outcomes for individuals, their families, and their communities.”
Grant’s experience running a white-collar support group revealed how isolating and overwhelming white-collar post-conviction life can be, not just for the offender but for their entire support network. While white collar support groups are communities for people dealing with these challenges, this conference aims to create a more public and expansive forum for discussion, personal responsibility, healing, and solutions. , taking our mission one step further.
The conference begins with a fireside conversation. Brent Cassity, host of the Nightmare Success Podcastand David Israel, founder of GOOD PLANeT Foods. Israel, which overcame legal challenges to become one of the nation’s leading producers of vegan cheese, plans to share a message of hope with conference attendees. His story of redemption underscores a key theme of the conference: that white-collar post-conviction lives can indeed be rebuilt, but it requires support, strategy, and resilience.
Another important session focused on healing through a supportive community included Theranos whistleblower Erica Chan, “Bridgegate” defendant Bill Baroni, former Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams, It will feature a distinguished panel of speakers, including criminal defense attorney Elizabeth Kelly; Together, they will provide different perspectives as we navigate the complex emotional, legal, and social challenges associated with white-collar criminal convictions.
“Everyone we bring to the table brings a unique perspective that speaks first-hand to the pain felt throughout the criminal justice process,” Grant said. “We are optimistic that this gathering of people will help advance the conversation around white-collar issues in a meaningful way.”
Because of the widespread nature of these issues, there was no shortage of sponsors to provide support for the conference. Paul Weiss, New York Law Journal’s 2024 Law Firm of the Year and principal sponsor, sees these issues up close every day.
Recent data shows that an estimated 49% of federal offenders are rearrested within eight years of release. Many believe that this high recidivism rate is driven by the difficulties these people face when re-entering society, such as unemployment, social stigma, mental health concerns, and ongoing legal or financial issues. We believe that all of these are major barriers to reintegration into society.
White-collar conferences will feature workshops and panel discussions that address these and other important issues. Sessions will cover topics such as mental health issues, managing the emotional burden of a conviction, and overcoming post-conviction employment barriers. The goal is to provide participants with practical, actionable steps to increase their chances of rebuilding a successful life after a conviction.
White Collar Conference 2024 is a promising step toward addressing the unique challenges facing this community. By bringing together justice-involved individuals, families, lawyers, and advocates, we create an environment for meaningful discussion and actionable change with the goal of improving outcomes for all involved.
