New fire station coming to the foothills

Yuma, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Rural Metro Fire Department (RMFD) is building a new fire station and expanding its services to the Foothills area.

This expansion is a result of projected growth in the region and growing demand for public safety resources in the community.

RMFD call volume is growing by 1% from 2021 to 2022 and is expected to surpass this growth rate in 2023.

A new station, Station 10, will house a fire truck, ladder truck, and two ambulances.

The ministry’s decision to purchase ladder trucks is in light of the growing number of high-rise commercial and residential buildings that have been built or are in the planning stages.

The Foothills community has seen a significant increase in both commercial and residential development in recent years, increasing the need for a larger station to accommodate additional personnel and equipment.

The expansion into the Foothills district will improve and increase access to care for the surrounding communities.

Rural Metro said it hopes to have the new station operational by early 2024.
