New high risk sex offender in Yuma, address included | Yuma

Yuma – YCSO has released the following information pursuant to Community Notice on Sex Offenders Act, ARS 13-3825. The offenders in this publication live within Yuma County.

It is the responsibility of the highest law enforcement agency with jurisdiction in which the offender resides to notify the community. Notification must be made when certain sex offenders are released from Arizona State Penitentiary, accepted under an interstate agreement, or released back into the community from county prisons.

Violators are categorized into three levels: Level 1 (low risk to community), Level 2 (medium risk to community), and Level 3 (high risk to community).

The individual featured in this notice, 44-year-old Corey Albert Peoples, has been convicted of a sex offense allowing community notice. Corey Peoples told YCSO that he lives at 163 North Escamilla Court in San Luis, Arizona. He is described as 6 feet, 1 inch tall, and 245 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is not wanted by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at this time.

On November 20, 1996, Peoples pleaded guilty to custodial sexual assault charges in San Joaquin County Superior Court in Stockton, California. His victims were three boys he knew. He was given his five-year probation and he was sentenced to 73 days in prison.

On July 13, 2006, Peoples pleaded guilty to one count of failure to register in San Joaquin County Superior Court in Stockton, California. He was given his three-year probation.

Corey Peoples are considered Level 3 sex offenders with a high risk of recidivism.

This notice is not intended to increase fear. Rather, it is our belief that an informed community is a safer community. YCSO has no legal authority to dictate where sex offenders may or may not live. Unless restricted by court order, the criminal is constitutionally free to live wherever he pleases. Citizens may not use this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass sex offenders. Sex offenders live in our community all the time. However, Megan’s law allows law enforcement to share this information with you.
