After three years in command of Fort Huachuca, Maj. Gen. Anthony Hale has moved on to his next assignment.
Hale turned command over to Brigadier General Richard Appelhans Monday morning during a change-of-command ceremony at the Brown Parade stadium. By strengthening community ties and creating learning opportunities for soldiers and potential leaders, Hale prioritized those who worked and supported the fort during his 36-month term.
“I am honored to be part of this team,” Hale said. “Today, as we leave the podium for the last time and leave Brown Parade Field, I would like to ask military and community leaders to do one thing: stay positive every day.”
During his leadership, he helped improve housing, modernize some of the infrastructure required by the facility, and helped create the first multi-domain training ground to be used by all branches of the military. Apelhans said the improvements and efforts Hale has made over the past few years have helped put Fort Huachuca “back on the map.”
“I have some very big shoes to fill. No one can doubt the value and vital role of Fort Huachuca in our country’s defense. I will do everything in my power to follow your example and continue to advance this cause.”
Mr. Apelhans came to southeastern Arizona from South Korea, where he served as director of intelligence for US Forces Korea. He was also the Deputy Chief of the Allied Forces Command.
“I am honored to have her serve as your commander. Success on the battlefields of tomorrow begins here and now, on the edge of the frontier, home of the Buffalo Soldiers,” said Apelhans.
