The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has released the following information pursuant to Community Notice on the Sex Offenders Act, ARS 13-3825. The offenders in this publication live within Yuma County. It is the responsibility of the highest law enforcement agency with jurisdiction in which the offender resides to notify the community. Notification must be made when certain sex offenders are released from Arizona State Penitentiary, accepted under an interstate agreement, or released back into the community from county prisons. Violators fall into her three levels: Level 1 (low risk to the community), Level 2 (medium risk to the community), and Level 3 (high risk to the community).
The individual represented in this notice, John Woolsey Jr., 47, has been convicted of a sexual offense allowing community notice. John Woolsey informed YCSO that he lives at 885 S. George Belle Avenue #15 in Yuma, Arizona. He is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and 230 pounds, with red hair and brown eyes. He is not wanted by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at this time.
On August 30, 2012, Woolsey pleaded guilty to obscene disclosure charges in Walsh County District Court in Grafton, North Dakota. He was sentenced by the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to 1 year in prison, 275 days suspension, 75 days in prison, and 6 months probation.
John Woolsey is considered a Level 2 sex offender with a medium chance of recidivism.
This notice is not intended to increase fear. Rather, it is our belief that an informed community is a safer community. YCSO has no legal authority to dictate where sex offenders may or may not live. Unless restricted by court order, the criminal is constitutionally free to live wherever he pleases. Misuse of this information by citizens to intimidate, intimidate, or harass sex offenders will not be tolerated. Sex offenders live in our community all the time. However, Megan’s law allows law enforcement to share this information with you.
