‘New Mask, Same Task’: Robert Downey Jr. To Return To MCU As Dr. Doom

Marvel Studios announced on social media on Saturday that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Downey is gearing up for his dramatic return to the MCU, this time as the notorious supervillain Doctor Victor Von Doom, Marvel Studios revealed on Instagram. post Downey will star in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in May 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for release in May 2027. The announcement also revealed that Avengers: Doomsday will be directed by the Russo brothers, who have worked on Marvel hits such as Endgame.

The news was first announced during Comic-Con 2024's famed Hall H panel on Saturday, when director brothers Joe and Anthony Russo announced that the MCU will soon feature one of its most iconic supervillains, and that the villain will be played by none other than one of the franchise's most beloved actors.
