New Stadium For Tampa Bay Rays Officially Dies, Relocation Now Back On Table

It would be sad to see my beloved Florida lose his baseball team.

But that may be what happens in the Tampa Bay Rays. The situation at the stadium is absolutely terrible.

Continued Over 20 years At Tropicana Field, it seemed that the rays could finally build a new stadium in St. Petersburg. And this wasn’t that long ago. Each franchise, city and county made the announcement on a $1.3 billion worth of projects that fund the stadium and its construction.

However, the Rays announced Thursday that the organization is coming out of the deal, citing that it is unable to meet aspects of things.

Rays owner Stu Sternberg has issued a statement confirming the news. (Related: Cubs’ Seiya Suzuki practices batting in an incredibly unique way – watch this guy hits 40 homer this season)

“After careful deliberation, we concluded that we cannot advance the new ballpark and development projects at this time,” Sternberg said. “The series of events that began in October could not have predicted that no one would have led to this difficult decision.”

“Our commitment to vitality and success for the Rays organization is unwavering. We continue to focus on finding ballpark solutions that serve our region, major league baseball, and our organization’s greatest interest.”

MLB went on to say it is “devoted” to keep the rays in the Tampa area.

“Major League Baseball is still committed to finding permanent homes for Tampa Bay area clubs for their fans and the community,” read the MLB statement. “Committee (Rob) Manfred understands the disappointment of the St. Petersburg community since today’s announcement, but we will continue to work with elected officials, community leaders and Rays officials to ensure the club’s future in the Tampa Bay area.”

No matter what MLB says, there’s no denying that things are becoming unstable… Keep an eye on any possible relocations.
