New trial date set in killing of 6-year-old Tucson girl

A new trial date has been set for the man charged with the April 2012 murder of 6-year-old Isabel Celis.

Pima County Superior Court Judge James Marner has set September 12 as the date for 41-year-old Christopher M. Clements to begin his second trial. A miscarriage of justice was declared on March 3 after the jury failed to reach a verdict in the first kidnapping and murder trial Clements faced in the Sellis case, the Arizona Daily Star previously reported.

After hearing from 30 witnesses, the jury deliberated for two days before Marner declared the trial erroneous, The Star reported.

In September, Clements was found guilty of kidnapping and killing Maribel Gonzalez, 13, in June 2014. star reported.

The trial began on February 14, and a Pima County judge declared the trial erroneous on March 3.
