New York Pledges More Than $2 Billion To Assist City Migrant Crisis

Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced her intention to appropriate more than $2 billion from the state budget to help New York City manage its migrant crisis.

I plan to go to Washington on Friday to advocate for federal legislation and seek more funding to support our city.”

This funding will provide short-term shelter services, large-scale emergency housing, medical care, according to NBC 4 to New York. The funds will also be used to help immigrants process asylum and work permits.

Border Patrol encountered approximately 2 million immigrants who entered the country illegally in fiscal year 2023. according to to federal data. During the same period, there were 172 encounters with immigrants whose names were on federal terrorist watch lists, up from 98 in 2022.

Hochul did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
