Today, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Charles Lucking to fill the vacancy in the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona's 5th Legislative District.
LD-5 covers much of central and northern Phoenix.
“Charles Lucking is not only a longtime resident of LD-5, but also a fifth-generation Arizonan with a deep dedication to serving his community,” said District 3 Supervisor Bill Gates. . “When I interviewed him, it was clear that he was focused on building more affordable housing and tackling the deficit head on.”
Mr. Lucking previously served in the Peace Corps and is currently an attorney with Community Legal Services.
Board members selected Mr. Lucking from a list of three candidates submitted by the LD-5 Precinct Commissioner, in accordance with Arizona law. Candidates had to reside within the constituency and be members of the same party as the vacated candidate. In this case, Democrats.
Luck will serve out the remainder of his term. This position will be on the ballot in the November 5, 2024 general election.
