News Flash • Board Appoints New District 8 Legislator

Today, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Jevin Hodge to fill the vacant seat in Arizona's 8th Congressional District.

LD-8 is located in four different supervisory districts and spans much of southern Maricopa County, including Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, and the Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community.

“I first met Jevin Hodge in 2020 when he ran for a seat on the District 1 Maricopa County Board of Supervisors,” said Chairman Jack Sellers. “I narrowly won that race, but Mr. Hodge proved to be a formidable opponent. I admire his commitment to bettering his community, especially Tempe, where he grew up. I believe his experience and passion for the community make him the ideal candidate to represent Legislative District 8.”

Mr. Hodge previously served as president of the Tempe Union High School Educational Foundation. He was the National Engagement Director for Link Strategic Partners and Chairman of the Board of the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center. He has served on the advisory board of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. Hodge received the NAACP Roy Wilkins Distinguished Service Award and the City of Tempe MLK Diversity Award.

“Jevin Hodge has proven himself to be an independent thinker and champion of business who puts the welfare of the community above politics,” said Vice Chairman Thomas Galvin. “I appreciated his thoughtful responses to my survey. I believe he is a voice of reason and a potential consensus builder at the Statehouse.”

Board members selected Mr. Hodge from a list of three candidates submitted by the LD-8 Precinct Commissioners in accordance with Arizona law. Candidates had to reside within the constituency and be members of the same party as the vacated candidate. In this case, Democrats.

Hodge will serve out the remainder of his term until December 31st.centThis position will be on the ballot in the November 5, 2024 general election.
