News Flash • Board of Supervisors Appoints Adam Hess to Repr

In its first official action at its first meeting of 2024, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors appointed Adam Hess of Belmont to represent District 3 through the remainder of 2024.

Mr. Hess, a 27-year U.S. Army veteran and longtime resident of Coconino County, was appointed by the board following an extensive recruitment process that began with Superintendent Matt Ryan's retirement announcement in October 2023.

“This is something I have been looking forward to for a long time and I want to thank everyone for their support,” Supervisor Hess commented. “This is my home and my focus as District 3 Supervisor is to meet with the people I represent and figure out how I can support them and represent them on the board. It’s about finding out.”

Hess grew up in Flagstaff after his family relocated in 1976 and graduated from Sinagua High School and Northern Arizona University. He also holds a Master of Science degree in geological engineering from Missouri Tech University. Additionally, he graduated from the Engineer Officer Basic Course and the Engineer Captain Career Course at the U.S. Army School of Engineers at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He retired from active duty from the active Guard Reserve program in 2023 with the rank of major.

“Throughout the hiring process, I have watched Coach Hess grow into the role he is about to take on,” added District 2 Board President and Superintendent Geronimo Vazquez. I look forward to working with him this year. ”

Superintendent Hess will serve the remainder of Matt Ryan's term (until December 31, 2024). All supervisory seats are up for election this year, and Mr. Hess has indicated he intends to run for a full four-year term.

Like other members of the board, Supervisor Hess will have offices at the Coconino County Administration Center, 219 E. Cherry Ave. in Flagstaff. County residents who would like to contact him can email ahess@coconino.az.gov or call (928) 679-7163.
