During its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 14, the commission recognized the two winners of a countywide contest to design new “I Voted” and “Future Voter” stickers to be distributed at polling places and vote centers in 2024.
“With the generous support of EAC’s Help America Vote College Program grant, Coconino County Elections Department “The sticker design contest was a success,” said Coconino County Election Board Chair Esril Musta. “Not only did this initiative deepen our partnership with Northern Arizona University, it also encouraged Northern Arizona University students to participate in polling place and widespread sticker distribution. Additionally, by combining English, Navajo, Hopi and Spanish into one design, we were able to celebrate and embrace the linguistic diversity of our community.”
The winning “I Voted” sticker was created by Karen Javera, a graphic design student at Northern Arizona University. The sticker captures the essence of Coconino County by prominently featuring three of San Francisco's iconic mountains framed by two majestic ponderosa pines. The phrase “I Voted” appears boldly across the sticker along with a checkmark, encouraging a sense of accomplishment after fulfilling one's civic duty.
Mary Corcoran, of Flagstaff, designed a “Future Voter” sticker for under-18s to wear, featuring decorative edges and the words “Future Voter” prominently displayed in a marker-like font.
“Congratulations to all the winners. We are very impressed with each of the designs,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeronimo Vázquez. “We are thrilled to see the 'I Voted' stickers in a variety of languages.”
Both stickers will be distributed for the Coconino County Primary Election on July 30, 2024 and the General Election on November 5, 2024.
