News Flash • MCACC Offering Free Microchips Through End of t

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) will be offering free microchips at both shelters through the end of the year in hopes of rehoming more dogs with their owners.

Nearly 13,000 animals have arrived at MCACC so far this year. Most of those dogs were strays. MCACC believes that microchipping pets is one of the easiest ways to prevent shelter overcrowding.

“We've been working with over 900 dogs over the past few weeks and, simply put, we're out of kennels,” said Kim Powell, communications supervisor for MCACC. Without microchips or other identification, they are difficult to return to their owners, so they remain in shelters and contribute to capacity issues. ”

A microchip is usually implanted under the skin between your shoulder blades. Scanning will reveal the owner's contact information, increasing the chances of a happy reunion.

To help pet owners avoid the heartbreaking nightmare of searching for their lost pets, MCACC aims to microchip 1,000 pets by the end of the year. Free microchips will be provided at the East and West shelters from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, starting October 16th.th.

Owners who wish to have their pet microchipped are asked to visit our store. Register online beginning.
