In honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) announced that it has received a national award from Best Friends Animal Society for the sixth consecutive year for the survival rate of animals in its care. did. line.

“There has never been a better week to celebrate and recognize the MCACC team’s commitment to protecting the animals in our shelters,” said Kim Powell, MCACC Communications Supervisor.

Best Friends Animal Society presents this award each year to commemorate an organization that joins an elite group nationwide that saves more than 90 percent of animals in captivity. His live release rate for the 2022 calendar year in the MCACC is 94%, and he is expected to have a live save rate of over 90% again this year.

Best Friends calculated live release rates for MCACC through the Shelter Pet Data Alliance platform. The platform is designed to provide shelter professionals with insight into regional and national trends and to compare shelter data. The data also shows that MCACC has a 66% adoption rate, which is significantly higher than the 49% adoption rate for comparable shelters across the country.

In Maricopa County, more than 70 animals often enter shelters each day. MCACC staff works diligently to care for the animals and do everything possible to help them find their forever homes. But caring for animals is a team effort. Only with the support of communities, nonprofits, foster parents, and adopters can the positive trends continue.
