Former Louisiana State wide receiver Kylen Lacey died of an apparent “self-harm gunshot wound” after a police pursuit in Texas on Saturday.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the police officer’s office responded to a call from a female relative to block the weapons. He said he had a verbal discussion with Lacey. The release issued by the Sheriff’s Office said: “A vehicle was chased over several miles. A suspicious vehicle crashed near the 25,900 block of Aldin Westfield.”
They went on to say, “When I tried to detain Lacey and take him out of the vehicle, I discovered he was suffering from what appears to be a self-harmed gunshot wound.”

The release said, “Lacy was declared to have died on the scene by EMS personnel.”
Murder Detectives and Crime Scene Unity conducted a preliminary investigation showing that “Lacy had shot herself during pursuit and before the vehicle collided.”
They went on to say, “The handgun has been recovered from inside the vehicle.”
According to the release, reviews of body camera footage and police dash cam videos did not show that they were fired after the pursuit was over.”

Police interacted with Lacey for another issue prior to the incident.
Police allegedly caused the car accident that Lacey killed a 78-year-old man on December 17th, and “will run from the scene without rendering aid and calling authorities.” According to CNN.
He threw himself into authorities on Jan. 12, was jailed and released on $151,000 bail, the outlet reported.
Lacey was charged with negligent murder, felony death and reckless operation of the vehicle. Evidence from the case was to be presented to the Great Juice at a hearing scheduled to begin Monday.

Lacey declared the December 19th NFL Draft two days after the fatal car accident.
He joined LSU’s Pro Day in March and was ranked in December as the draft’s No. 6 receiver prospect by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.
LACY played three seasons at LSU and had a great season in 2024 when he caught 58 passes for 866 yards and led the team with nine touchdowns.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete, Kylen Lacey. Our thoughts and prayers have been influenced by the death of his family, loved ones, and his former teammates and coach,” they wrote.
