Former NHL star Sean Avery took a stab at the “woke motherfuckers” of the world in a short Instagram video Sunday, praising New York Rangers rookie Matt Lempe, who played in four of the team's first five games.
“You can't work from home. No, you have to show up on your first day of work and fight another guy in Matt Martin,” Avery said.
“So those motherfuckers that woke up at home think they're in trouble? This kid had to go to work on his first day of work in the NHL,” he continued. “He got to get in the gladiator octagon and fight another guy.”
Lempe made his NHL debut at MetLife Stadium, hanging up his gloves on his first shift and fully bursting onto the scene.

This Luke is insanely electric. It's been a long time since the NHL has had a proper thug, but it's finally here. This kid has more penalty time than ice time. so far. (Related article: Star QB Cam Newton gets involved in a 7-on-1 brawl but somehow doesn't lose)
In a short period of time, he has already built up quite a reputation. During Sunday's game against the Blue Jackets, Columbus forward Matthew Olivier showed him the ultimate sign of respect by being polite before the game. ask To him if he wants to go.

The underdogs of the world argue that rookies can't do that every night, and that it's “unsustainable” to fight people every chance they get.
I asked #NYR Coach Peter Laviolette, is it sustainable for Matt Lempe to play every game or do we need to have a discussion with him:
“There's always a conversation going on. We never don't have a conversation about what's going on. When the players go on the ice, incidents happen…

Can you guys close the trap? This guy is 6 feet 8 inches tall and a pure savage. If he wants to throw a haymaker every game, who are you to stop him?
