A group of Republican counties on Monday scrambled to distance themselves from the event, which is headlined by one of the nation’s most hilariously obnoxious bigots.
The University of Arizona Republican Coalition has invited white supremacist Nick Fuentes to deliver a keynote address at its second annual national convention in Prescott later this month.
A far-right group flyer promoting the July 30 conference says it is co-organized by the Republicans of Maricopa, Pima and Yavapai counties.
But two of the three groups, the Maricopa County Republican Commission and the Pima County Republican Party, rushed to the windward of Monday’s event, saying they didn’t want anything to do with Fuentes.
Maricopa, Pima parties withdraw
The Maricopa County Republican Commission said, “The (Maricopa County Republican Commission) has never endorsed, sponsored, or promoted the future July 30th College Republican Convention.” tweeted. “Posting ‘MCRC’, ‘Maricopa GOP’, etc. on anything related to CRU events is not permitted. thank you. “
Republicans in Pima County called it “rigged” and said they were not told they would be on stage with Fuentes when asked to attend the conference.
“This particular activity and action being thwarted and framed is beyond words for me,” said Anastasia Tzatzakis, the party’s second vice-president. arizona mirror. “We do not participate in any kind of anti-Semitism. This is horrific and we would never have done it had we known.”
Appearance of Fuentes It wasn’t officially announced until Friday, but I don’t know why anyone would be shocked to see him selected as the keynote speaker.
College Republicans United has always been a fringe group, Christian nationalism and the “Opposition to immigration and multiculturalism”
Richer, Senator Corrodin Condemned Incident
Two Republican lawmakers, Maricopa County Registrar Stephen Richer and state legislator Alexander Corodin, frowned at the invitation to Fuentes, as did the Republican Jewish Coalition.
“Anti-Semitism should have no place within the Republican Party (or ideally anywhere else).” Richie tweeted.Richer is absolutely right, of course.
And yet, no high-ranking Republican remembers speaking to Rep. Paul Gossar and State Sen. Wendy Rogers when they were hanging out with Mr. Fuentes.
In 2021, Gosar will become the first incumbent Congressman to speak at the America First Political Action Conference in Fuentes. He clearly liked the group so much that he spoke with them again in 2022, and State Senator Wendy Rogers similarly praised young white supremacists as “patriots.”
Nick Fuentes has a lot of sneaky beliefs
Fuentes is one of the most abhorrent creatures of our time, a Nazi-loving, Holocaust-denying, insurrection-supporting white supremacist who argues that black people are inherently violent. They struggle with impulse control”.
He suggested that men beat their wives because they were “out of the ordinary.”A vicious and powerful backhand slap Place your knuckles right over her face,” he advises, something he recently said he hopes to do someday. child bride.
Last year, he rushed to the defense of Russian President Vladimir Putin, pointing out that people were comparing him to Adolf Hitler.as if it’s not good”
Earlier this year, he called Hitler a ‘pedophile’…also really cool“He says he wants it.”Complete victory for the Aryans“And this is how Jews should do it.”Get him out of America”
He is quick to admit that his goals are to grow a brand of white nationalism And anti-Semitism pushed it into the American mainstream, as if it were the norm, something to be accepted.
But Arizona Republican Leaders Remain Silent
At the Conservative Political Action Conference kicked him out A look at the conference earlier this year.
“His hateful and racist remarks and actions are inconsistent with CPAC’s mission,” Matt Schlapp said in a statement posted on Instagram.
So it’s no wonder county Republican groups in Arizona are backing off in favor of an event in which Fuentes will be the keynote speaker.
The question is where is the Arizona Republican Party?
Where are the rest of the Arizona Republican leaders, other than Richer, Corrodin, and the Republican Jewish Coalition, who stand by as Fuentes prepares to preach his poison to the next generation of Arizona Republican leaders? Are you there?
Fuentes certainly has the right to spew snarky remarks.
Just as others have the right to condemn them.
Still silence…
