Nicole Wadsworth’s Academic Credentials Under Scrutiny
Nicole Wadsworth, who is running for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama in 2026, has had her academic background questioned. Initially, her campaign claimed she held a PhD in Economics from the University of Alabama. However, it seems that the university did not accept her application.
Today, the campaign clarified that Wadsworth obtained her PhD from North Central Seminary, an online religious institution based in Florida. This institution is not recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Accreditation Council for Higher Education. The NCTS website indicates that while it is certified internally, it lacks regional or national accreditation. Furthermore, the degree is not transferable to other universities and is stated as “not intended for employment.”

There’s still some uncertainty surrounding her qualifications, as verification has been requested from the Florida Institute of Technology. A representative noted that the Huntsville remote learning site has been closed.
Wadsworth has also been known by the name Nicole Jones and has promoted a commercial real estate profile under this name. In an online bio created for her real estate venture, she claims to hold a doctorate in theology (THD) focusing on faith and public policy since April 2012.
North Central Theological Seminary emphasizes that its PhD programs include honorary degrees and states that such honors might be awarded based on assessment test scores related to biblical knowledge.
Interestingly, her commercial real estate profile does not mention the name Wadsworth, and there appears to be little mention of her work prior to 2018. In her campaign materials, she claims that a student award at Troy University has been established in her honor, reflecting her dedication to student leadership.
However, Troy University clarified that this recognition is not a formal honor for any particular individual but rather a chance for local stakeholders to contribute to the university. The university remarked on the importance of all donors who support student achievements.
As of now, the campaign for Nicole Wadsworth has not responded to requests for further comments regarding her academic claims or her political aspirations.
