Nintendo Confirms Sequel For ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’

Nintendo confirmed on Sunday that a sequel to “Super Mario Bros. Movie” is currently in development.

Nintendo has announced that the sequel to “Super Mario Bros. Movie'' will be released in theaters on April 3, 2026. Nintendo game director Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination's Chris Meledandri shared the news at a special Mario Day celebration. video. The release date comes almost three years after the original film's release date.

“We are currently working with the folks at Illumination to create a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will return to direct the next film, and Meledandri revealed that the production team is already hard at work. The creators are deep in the preparatory stages, from storyboarding to developing new set designs, and are preparing to begin animation soon. Meledandri noted that the team strives for perfection and is working hard to ensure that every detail is meticulously crafted for the sequel. “We'll start the animation soon, but rest assured we'll be paying close attention to every detail to make it perfect,” he said in the video.

“This time we are thinking of expanding the world of Mario even further, and I think it will be a bright and fun story,” Miyamoto continued.
