No criminal charges filed in Rupert meat processing animal cruelty complaint |

Rupert Police Will Not Call For Criminal Charges After Investigation Into Animal Cruelty At Meat Processing Plant Is Launched.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) asked Minidoka County Prosecutor Lance Stevenson in December to file charges of animal cruelty against Ida Meats LLC. The group said in a federal report that 251 calves had died in transit or had arrived at the facility in poor condition since January 1. 3 through June 30, 2022.

The condition of the calves was documented in the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service report, and there were no penalties or violations against the company.

Stevenson turned the matter over to law enforcement.

Rupert Police Chief Jeff McEwen said: “The investigation is closed. We have found nothing to charge.”

After the review, Minidoka County Sheriff Dave Pincer said the sheriff’s office did not investigate the matter because the action occurred within city limits.

“We have offered to assist the police in any way we can,” Pincer said.
