The MAGA Republican triumphalism unleashed by Donald Trump’s return to the White House has understandably spread to many of its most hostile correspondents. They urge me to bow down to the president and accept his victory as a command over everything we despise about the progressive left. The president insists that centuries of racism and sexism won’t magically disappear without intervention, and that women should be able to control discrimination themselves. Organizations recognize that all Americans should have health insurance, that the very rich should pay their fair share of taxes, and that we are – proudly – a nation of immigrants. I am appealing.
They told me that there are aliens invading our southern border, and that somehow we should deport the people who are here illegally, instead of imposing a reign of terror and raising the prices of goods and services. They want us to pretend that we can improve the lives of others. They want me to agree that curbing Russian aggression by helping to defend Ukraine is a waste of American treasure. They want me to believe that climate change poses no existential threat.
They often accuse me of copying Democratic talking points. I am registered as a Democrat, but that is all I have to do with the party. I’ve also been accused of being a “socialist,” which I guess means I’m an ardent supporter of Medicare and Social Security. Even the short-lived Tea Party movement has been shown to embrace socialism in that sense. A comically misguided slogan “Keep the government out of my Medicare!”
Essentially, my critics want me to admit that I was wrong to oppose Trump and his policies just because he won.
Never. And at least half the country feels the same way, including most of California.
“There is no mandate,” UCLA political scientist Lynn Vavreck said Thursday at a seminar on “Hate and Politics” at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. (Laboratory’s “Open Mind” Program offers free, remotely accessible, one-hour seminars that explore a wide range of mental health issues with experts from a variety of fields. )
Vavrek said the last few presidential elections have shown that the electorate has “calcified” and that the number of Democrats and Republicans is “almost even.” This means that the relatively small number of voters who do not belong to either party is not important.
Vavrek said that for these voters who are dissatisfied with the current state of the country, “‘out’ parties look like an attractive option.” Therefore, Joe Biden’s victory in 2020 will be primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Trump’s victory in 2024 will be primarily due to inflation. In any case, Vavrek reiterated that “there is no order.”
My political views and deepest ideals remain the same. Because a small number of American voters elected a man who is trying to orchestrate a return to a time when wealthy white men ruled the world, there were only two acceptable genders, and homosexuality was not accepted. A time when women could not get married engage in combat And when the United States could act as if the rest of the world didn’t actually exist. My parents, one devoutly religious and the other an atheist, taught me much more than that.
I will never stop criticizing the cruel and insane policies of a president who cannot stand being publicly admonished to be merciful to the helpless without throwing a tantrum more befitting a toddler than a 78-year-old. There isn’t. – Old man. Episcopal Bishop Marian Edgar Buddes plead with trump During Tuesday’s service at the Washington National Cathedral, I was reminded of the “hush money” criminal trial that took place in New York last spring. He was forced to remain silent during the trial because witnesses testified against him and a jury convicted him of 34 felonies. He had the same disgusted look on his face both times.
Trump rarely captivates his audience. Budde courageously seized the opportunity to demonstrate what true spiritual leadership looks like.
“I didn’t ask him for anything,” Budde later said. told the New York Times. “I was pleading with him, can you see the humanity of these people? …Can you admit that the people of this country are scared?”
What was the reaction from the MAGA world? get out of her head!
“She was tone-deaf, not persuasive, not smart,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She and her church owe the people an apology!”
the bishop refused Oblige yourself by saying, “I won’t apologize for what I said.”
Over the next four years, I will stand with all of you.mean womenPeople (and men and non-binary people, too) long for a country with leaders like Pastor Budde who exemplify empathy, compassion, and grace.
