The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) confirmed Monday that it is investigating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for allegedly decapitating a dead whale.
NOAA is investigating Kennedy after he allegedly decapitated a whale that had died nearly 20 years ago and brought the head back to his homeland. According to A NOAA spokesperson confirmed to CNN that an investigation is ongoing but declined to comment further, citing agency policy not to discuss ongoing investigations.
The incident came after Kennedy suspended his presidential campaign in August and endorsed former President Donald Trump. Following the public scrutiny, the Center for Biodiversity Action Fund called on NOAA to investigate Kennedy's actions, arguing that they may have undermined scientific research, CNN reported. Kennedy responded by saying he had never killed a whale, NBC News reported. Reported.
“I received a letter from the National Marine Fisheries Institute saying I'm under investigation for taking whale specimens 20 years ago,” Kennedy said while campaigning for former President Donald Trump, NBC News reported. “This is all an attempt to weaponize our government against political opponents.”
