Non-citizens, dead people sent voter registration forms by federal government, Alabama Secretary of State uncovers

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen has accused the Biden administration of exploiting federal policy to provide voter registration forms to non-citizens and deceased people.

Allen said in a statement Wednesday that her office had received reports from relatives of deceased voters that they had begun receiving registration forms in the names of their deceased family members. Allen said she learned the practice was being carried out at the direction of the federal government.

“I have heard concerns from Alabama voters who received voter registration forms in the mail addressed to deceased relatives,” Allen said. “These voter registration mailings did not come from my office, but rather were sent by state agencies at the direction of the federal government due to an overly broad interpretation of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA).”

“These practices are egregious and federal law must be changed.”

Allen, the state's elections chief, said he has repeatedly attempted to formally contact White House officials to seek clarification on the new interpretation of the policy.

“My office has testified before U.S. Senate committees about efforts to prevent illegal immigrants and aliens from voting in elections, and has attempted multiple times, both in writing and verbally, to obtain clarification from the White House about the Biden Administration's efforts to expand the NVRA through the implementation of Executive Order 104019,” Allen said.

“It is clear to me that this executive order is an attempt to federalize the expansion of voter registration policies originally established by the NVRA. I have requested access to public records and information regarding these programs and their implementation in the state.”

Current federal policy requires that voter registration information be provided to anyone who comes into contact with certain state agencies.

The policy requires foreign nationals to be provided with information about registering to vote in Alabama and the registration forms they need to register to vote, Allen's office said, adding that the purpose of the federal NVRA is not to provide voter registration forms to foreign nationals or deceased Americans.

Allen concluded by expressing deep concerns about non-Americans voting in US elections.

“The Biden Administration is knowingly implementing a policy that provides out-of-state residents a mechanism to register to vote in their state and 49 other states. Only American citizens should be able to participate in elections. Biden's attempt to use a crisis he created at the border to tie the hands of agencies like Medicaid and enforce his own agenda is shameful.”

“Election integrity is the number one priority of this job, and no one, not even President Biden, can make me back down from that.”
