Norma Geraldine Sedlack – Post Bulletin

Norma Geraldine Con Sedlak died at Charterhouse on February 17, 2023 at the age of 87.

Norma was born March 3, 1935 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Bertha and Gerald Conn. Norma and his sister Irene moved many places during their childhood, including Yuma, Arizona. As Norma reached his teenage years, becoming a nurse became a passion. She obtained her nursing certificate in Illinois in 1956 and became a nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where she met her future husband, Richard Sedrac, Dr. rice field. They married her in Chicago, Illinois on November 22, 1958, and soon moved to Rochester, Minnesota after Richard obtained a position as a gastroenterologist at Mayo’s clinic. Norma never left Rochester after that. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Winona State University in 1980 and Rochester where she taught nursing classes at her College of Community Colleges.

Norma was heavily involved in the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), serving as president of several local chapters and as state regent. She got to DAR when she fell in love with studying her family tree. Genealogical studies were extensively conducted on both sides of the family. She even found rare vintage photos and made historical photo albums for each of her children.

Norma’s two favorite things were whistling and reading Harlequin romance novels. She will always be remembered as very songbird. She also had a very quirky way of reading the last chapter of her novel first before starting her book.

Norma and Richard loved to travel. They love Hawaii and have traveled around the world, including India, and even drove to Alaska. The best summer family trips were cross-country road trips packed with the whole family in a station wagon. They also bravely took her month-long trip to Europe with all five of her children.

Norma raised five children in Rochester. Jeff (Marian) of Falmouth, Maine; Tom of Woodbury, Minnesota; Nancy (Gerald) Brown of Woodbury, Minnesota; Diana (Barry) Maxwell of Winter Garden, Florida; and Robert (Carolyn) of Rochester, Minnesota.

Norma also left behind a wonderful family consisting of her beloved sister, Alice “Irene” (Jerry) Moyer, niece Marge (Mark) Hall, and 11 grandchildren. Will, Victoria, Anne, Connor, Mackenzie, Colleen, Harrison, Cameron, Alex and twins Aidan and Isabel.

Funeral services will be private at the Fort. Snelling reunites with Richard. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Instead of flowers, consider donating to the Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Rochester, Minnesota or your favorite charity.
