This should be one of the ridiculous things I’ve ever seen in sports.
Northwestern’s women’s basketball team is not one Two confiscations By the Big Ten after not playing in a contest with USC and UCLA.
Originally scheduled for January 12th and January 15th, the game was initially postponed due to a Los Angeles fire. In response, the northwest I’ve decided A trip to Southern California is “due to concerns surrounding the ongoing wildfires affecting large areas of Los Angeles.”
The fire that knocked on LA began three days before Northwestern announced, during which time the fire was not even close to containment. On top of that, the NFL relocated the postseason game, and the NBA postponed some of them. However, according to the Big Ten rules, Northwestern is confiscated because it does not appear in both games. That is, the team has two losses on a resume that didn’t actually happen. Meanwhile, USC and UCLA are each given victory.
Northwestern athletic director Mark Jackson said their athletic division would accept the Big Ten decision to “apply strictly with written conference ordinances,” but he made it clear he doesn’t regret the choice not to go where it was lit up.
“Although it is in place because of ordinances and regulations, we accept them, we do not reduce the healthy reason for this team not to participate during this natural disaster,” Jackson said. “We continue to support female basketball student-athletes and hope for a strong recovery in the Southern California region.”
