TUCSON — Needing to head south to Tucson to finally see green grass and sunshine in Arizona’s skies, the Flagstaff baseball team certainly experienced a lot this spring.
Flagstaff head coach Kenny Macias said, “I feel like we’re doing pretty well for the bad weather we’ve experienced so far this season.” It was very difficult to load, but the team has smashed it and is working on it.”
Flagstaff’s National Weather Service reported more than 120 inches of snow this winter and early spring, with nearly triple that amount (326 inches) at Snowbowl.
White fluffy snow and a cold, wet, windy afternoon in the mountains are perfect for holiday photos, snowy days, and fun times with the family at Christmas, but also for outdoor sports like baseball. is miserable.
Luckily for the Eagles (7-4, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), the weather doesn’t seem to affect their ability to win games.
“We have a dome facility with a batting cage and we play groundballs with softies on the gym floor, which keeps our basketball coaches and ADs happy. We definitely take in a lot of BP when we are indoors.” said Macias.
The Eagles headed south on Interstate 17 and held some practices at Bradshaw Mountain and Camp Verde high schools.

To wrap up the Lancer Baseball Classic in Tucson, Flagstaff beat Empire 11-4 on Friday morning to finish the five-day tournament with a 2-3 record.
Heath Lopez went 3-for-4 with 2 and 3, Samuel Faust went 2-3 with 2 and the Eagles stole eight in the win.
Conor Inigez pitched 4-2/3 innings, allowing 4 runs and 5 hits while striking out 7.
Next up, Flagstaff will be hosting Shadow Mountain on Tuesday, March 21st. First pitch is set for 4pm.
Bradshaw Mountain 10, St. Marys 0
PRESCOTT VALLEY — With three hits from Josh Cazale and two RBIs each from Anthony Morales and Dalton Irwin, the Bradshaw Mountain baseball team beat St. Mary’s 10-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears (7-3, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon) scored three in the fourth and had three more RBIs in the sixth to beat the Knights. .
Kazal allowed only nine strikeouts and two hits in six innings for Bradshaw Mountain.
Up next, the Bears will play a doubleheader against Lee Williams on March 25th. The first pitch for Game 1 is set for 2:00 PM.
Prescott 6, Lake Havasu 5
Mojave Valley — Paul Farnow and Lucas Barrett each had two RBIs as the Prescott baseball team survived a late rally at Lake Havasu to hold on to a 6-5 victory Saturday afternoon.
Farnow allowed 5 runs on 4 hits and struck out 7 in a win over the Badgers (5-3, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon) to take 4 of 5 in the Route 66 Tournament in Mojave Valley .
Fernow, Brendan Costes, and Jack Burton went 2-for-3 at bat, but Burton won two doubles.

The Sand Devils (5-2, 4-0 3A North) outscored their last five opponents 78-14 with two victories over Winslow, Monument Valley, Tuba City and Ganado.

2A: Kingman Academy 8, Camp Verde 5
MOHAVE VALLEY — Cade Benson closed out Saturday afternoon’s Route 66 tournament play with a 2-3 RBI and an 8-5 win over Kingman Academy to lead Camp Verde.
Benson was the only player with a base hit for the Tigers (4-2, 0-0 2A West), walking five and being hit twice by Camp Verde pitchers in the win.
Zane Zimmerman went 1-2 with an RBI double, and Gunner Selting had two hits and a run for the Cowboys (4-9, 0-0 3A North Central).
Camp Verde then moves to Northwest Christian on March 21st. The first pitch is set for 3:45 p.m.
Kingman Academy will host Mohave Accelerated on March 22nd at 3:45pm.
1A: State runner-up Sultan returns to form
