State University student Samuel Elwood “Stick” Homan, 100, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at his home.
Born June 29, 1922 in Ferguson Township, the son of the late Samuel A. and the late Margaret E. (Calvert) Homan. On October 17, 1946, at State University, she married L. Eileen Yinling, who died on July 16, 2011.
His survivors include Nancy Beck and her husband John of Archer, Fla.; Sue Lower and her husband Ken of Brockport, New York; Ellen Deno and her husband Scott of State University; have her children. Husband David of Dunnellon, Florida; Samuel Homan and wife Carla of Hope Sound, Florida; Lois Zimmerman and husband John of Bellefonte; Wayne Homan and wife Robin of Furness, Pennsylvania; and Julie Fritz. Originally from Apache Junction, Arizona. He has 18 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. There are 32 great-grandchildren and his 3 step-great-grandchildren and his 2 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he had one great-grandson, Kamran Baan Rajai and his two brothers who died earlier. Mary Ellen Homan Keane and Franklin Earl Homan.
Samuel graduated from State College High School in 1940. He owned and operated Nine Oaks Farm in Pennsylvania.
He was a member of the Center Community Church of Christ. He has also served with Baileyville Grange, Pennsylvania, County Farmland Trust, Experimental Aircraft Association, Nittany Antique Machinery Association, Pennsylvania Flying Farmers, International Flying Farmers, Pennsylvania Farmers Association, Allegheny Mountains Area Antique Car Club. and was a member of the Cub Club (Piper Cub). .
Visits will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State University.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Monday 22nd at the Koch Funeral Home, officiated by Bob White and Austin Homan, following a second visit.
Burial will take place in Gladesville Cemetery.
